Painless Spelling (Barron's Painless Series)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (September, 1998)
Authors: Mary Elizabeth Podhaizer and Hank Morehouse
Average review score:

This books "spells" success!
Another wonderful addition to the "Painless" series, this little handbook is a must-have for students, parents, and teachers who want to make spelling easier for themselves or others. Let's face it, spelling isn't exactly high-interest learning - but the "Painless" guide truly does make learning easy and nowhere near as boring as the typical spelling books we all endured in school. The examples are fresh and interesting, and the explanations are clear...and best of all, this guide really does make learning/teaching spelling a PAINLESS experience!

Philosophy of Nietzsche
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (December, 1989)
Authors: Fredrich Nietzche and Monarch Press
Average review score:

Nietzsche was a man before his or even our time.
In a time where even the simplest of tasks have become not only trivial, but in almost all situations dangerous in one extreme or another, the questions of how in the world did they know these things, or why in the world did we not listen to them has become a daily question. Of the great minds of our times, we only listen or follow the teachings of few men and always only when it benifits us in the short term future. What would our world be like if we listened to the insane wrantings of a Nietzsche, Schauppenhaur, Milton, or even a La Vey, instead of an Einstien (atomic power), Nostradaumus (drug induced prophosies), or a Freud (who's earlier studies began with Nietzsche). In a world full of information at your fingertips, knowledge and wisdom from all before us and continuous learning, we only accept or learn only what we think will benifit us and disregard any and all information that the only benifit it has is knowledge and wisdom because in this day and age the one thing the world around us has taught us is that we only cherish that which we can destroy. Even though we stand by idol and watch our world fade away from us by our own hands, this book gives us the opportunity to learn that there is not only an alternative way of thinking and living, it gives us the knowledge to understand why we should by showing us why. He makes you listen to his works by using the simplist of terms, almost teaching you slowly enough to make you feel stupid for not thinking it before him, and then gives you the reasons why. By showing you the horrific truth about the world we live in, the death, the betrayal, the horror of everyday life, then and now. The decline of our society, our beliefs, and even our religions did exist then and continues to today. If you can handle the truth of the world we live in and want to be part of it without going crazy tring to figure it out, this is the book to read, or at least, the very least, the beginning of a wonderfull world of knowledge.

A Pocket Guide to Correct Spelling (Barron's Educational Series)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (August, 1990)
Authors: Francis Griffith and Barrons Educational Series
Average review score:

All the words that are fit to spell
This book is a great quick reference, with three columns of words per page, and a plastic jacket over the cover. The dimensions (about 7" high and 4.5" wide) make it much easier to use than other small "square" spellers.

There are still many uses for this speller, even with electronic spell checkers.

A Pocket Guide to Vocabulary (Barron's Educational Series)
Published in Hardcover by Barrons Educational Series (August, 1990)
Authors: Samuel C. Brownstein, Mitchel Weiner, and Sharon Weiner Green
Average review score:

Great for Writing Vocabularies
If you are looking to build a writing vocabulary this would be the book to buy. Most other vocabulary books are intermixed with a special set of words or bombarded with the author's interpretation on how to build your own vocabulary. But for the most part, people who are looking to expand their writing vocabulary already have a coup on how they want to expand their vocabulary and are just looking for the words to do so. This book allows that to happen. With 3,000 perfect vocabulary words, this is a quintessential book for anyone who is trying to expand their writing vocabulary.

**Warning**
Don't buy this book if you are looking to expand your reading vocabulary. Reading definitions won't help you expand your vocabulary-it's a very inactive form of understanding. Try "Word Power Made Easy" by Normal Lewis or read the classics which are laden with great words. (If the classics aren't your thing, try Asimov's Foundation Series, it's a fun read and chalk full of great vocabulary words.) If you love looking up definitions or looking for an easier way to expand your vocabulary; think about buying Merriam-Webster's speaking dictionary (mws-1840.)

The Poetry of John Donne and the Metaphysical Poets (Monarch Literary Notes)
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (December, 1989)
Authors: Joseph E. Grennen and Joseph Greenen
Average review score:

A great book to understanding Donne
Donne is probably the most misunderstood poet. Now analyzing his works we can begin to see the depth of this man and the affects of history on his writings--and of his writings on history. This book will definitely help you understand the difficult poetry without explaining every little boring detail, since you are the one studying it, you should find out on your own.

Publicity and Public Relations (Barron's Business Library)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (November, 1990)
Author: Dorothy I. Doty
Average review score:

Solid How-To
Doty and Pincus have put together an excellent, solid how-to for public relations professionals and newcomers. What it lacks in specularness, it makes up for in theoroughness.

It's not overwhelmingly strong on the Internet, though it does have stuff about e-mail lists and websites. If you're pushing that aspect, I think Levine's Guerrilla PR: wired is the better bet, since it focuses heavily on the Internet.

Still, Publicity and Public Relations is an excellent piece, especially for newcomers or those with limited experience.

Quickcheck French (Barron's Quickcheck Language Series)
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (January, 1998)
Author: Francoise Mercier
Average review score:

Quickcheck French (Barron's)
This is a must-have for the on-the-go business traveler who is tired of hearing his seat mate tell his personal story. The tests are "doable" and fun to complete. I highly recommend this book for the Francophile or the traveler who prefers the company of a book to a chatty seat partner! Usable, great grammar review, and best of all the answers are included at the back of the book. I highly recommend this reference book.
